A high-speed blender — this is the one non-negotiable piece of equipment. Baby spinach needs proper blending power to break down completely with no visible green specks. A Vitamix, NutriBullet Pro, or Ninja all handle this perfectly. A weaker blender can leave spinach fibre visible throughout the bowl — not a deal-breaker for flavour, but it changes the visual completely.
Two wide, shallow bowls — wide for maximum topping surface area, shallow so the toppings have somewhere to sit rather than sinking immediately
A spatula — essential for scraping the thick base out of the blender without leaving half of it behind
Measuring cups for the frozen fruit, spinach, milk, and ice
A sharp knife for slicing any fresh toppings
The high-speed blender is genuinely the make-or-break element here. The spinach-first blending step only works properly if the blender has enough power to fully pulverise the leaves into the liquid. If you're using a standard blender, extend the spinach-blending step to a full 60 seconds and check for any remaining visible pieces before adding the other ingredients.
